“Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life.
Everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfilment.
Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated.
Thus everyone’s task is as unique as his specific opportunity to implement it.”
– Viktor Frankl

As a psychologist, I’m a big fan of Victor Frankl. Those who have worked with me over the years have undoubtedly heard me quote him at some point and this quote is one of my favourites. It speaks to the unique value every individual brings to the world. It speaks to the importance of working to manifest that unique value as a meaningful contribution to the world. It speaks to one’s personal mission within the world.

The concept of articulating your personal mission is one that continues to find its way into my work as I spend more and more time with leaders to define their identity and purpose beyond their job description. Yet the importance of personal mission not only inhabits my work with clients, it is one that is central to my own life and business. My mission in life is:

To help leaders and their organisations unlock their potential and perform at their peak.

This mission is the lens through which I interact with the world. It influences my thoughts about international events, my interactions with people, the way I parent my children and the work I choose to pursue. As a business owner, I’m lucky enough to have the flexibility to build my business around the fulfilment of this mission.

When I embarked on the journey of starting my own business as a sole trader I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I was committed to helping people and the belief that people are more brilliant than they think they are, they just need help to realise it. I didn’t have a plan beyond making the most of some short-term opportunities and gaining some business acumen before finding a role in a larger consultancy thus, things weren’t set up for long-term success. And yet with plenty of hard work, the opportunities continued to present themselves and my humble little business Clifford Morgan Consulting went from strength to strength. Four years on I have a team of people supporting service delivery and it’s time to start on a new journey.

As of 1 July 2021, I am proud to be leading our new management consulting firm – Lumian Consulting.

What’s behind the name?
The name Lumian was inspired by two concepts.

The first is the concept of the luminary, a person of prominence or brilliant achievement in their field, one who inspires and influences others. We are passionate about helping leaders realise their potential, so they are maximising both their performance and their influence within their organisation. These are leaders who people look up to as role models, not just because of their achievements but because of how they improve the work and lives of those they lead. These are leaders who develop other great leaders who go on to do the same.

They are the luminaries within their organisation and their field – these are the leaders we are passionate about developing.

The second is the term lumen which is Latin for light. In the chaos of the modern volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world in which we live, many leaders find it hard to know how to navigate the journey ahead. At Lumian, we work to illuminate the path ahead for leaders and organisations we work with.

As we move forward in establishing the Lumian brand, I invite you to join us on the journey. Whether that is as a client, a collaborator, or a champion. I’m excited to see what the future holds for our business and am keen to share it with you.

If you’re interested in working with us, then please reach out. We’d love to explore how we can best help you achieve the outcomes you desire for yourself, your team, and your company. As Benjamin Disraeli once said, “The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but reveal to him his own.” Let’s see how many leaders we can inspire to lead with this in mind.

Until next time,
                       Lead well.

Cliff Morgan.
